Seattle SCORES Spring Jamboree, May, 2008 : The annual spring soccer & poetry jamboree at the StarFire Complex in Tukwila, WA on May 16, 2008.

Seattle SCORES, an affiliate of the national program America SCORES, is the only after-school program to use the world's most popular sport - soccer - to inspire literacy in elementary school children. We are now serving 416 youth in Burien, White Center, Tukwila, and South Seattle; every day after school our kids are playing soccer and expressing themselves through poetry. SCORES kids are on their way to becoming our nation's World Cup soccer stars and best-selling authors! 

Kids, parents and volunteers are encouraged to right click and save photos.  You can also order high quality prints at cost by selecting the "buy this photo" option.  If original files are needed for publication contact us at photostorms@aol.com

Seattle SCORES: The Adults!  June 1, 2008 : The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat: adult teams competed to raise funds for Seattle SCORES, not to mention for the greater glory of competition.

Seattle SCORES, an affiliate of the national program America SCORES, is the only after-school program to use the world's most popular sport - soccer - to inspire literacy in elementary school children. We are now serving 416 youth in Burien, White Center, Tukwila, and South Seattle; every day after school our kids are playing soccer and expressing themselves through poetry. SCORES kids are on their way to becoming our nation's World Cup soccer stars and best-selling authors!

NW Folklife Festival, Saturday May 25, 2008 : Northwest Folklife creates opportunities for individuals and communities of the Pacific Northwest to celebrate, share and sustain the vitality of folk, ethnic and traditional arts for present and future generations. Northwest Folklife carries out its mission in a variety of ways, most notably through the annual production of the free Northwest Folklife Festival. 

This year the cultural focus of the Festival was Urban Indians.

Mushroom Maynia! @ the Burke Museum, 2008 : In partnership with the Puget Sound Mycological Society the Burke Museum of Natural History & Culture presented the first ever Mushroom Maynia on May 4, 2008 to celebrate the amazing array of fungi in our region.  There were demonstrations, recipes, and many activities for children and adults.

Prosecutorial Ethic: A Tribute to Norm Maleng, Reception on May 29, 2008 : This reception preceded a University of Washington School of Law Continuing Education Program: The Prosecutorial Ethic: A Tribute to King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng, featuring Patrick Fitzgerald, U.S. Attorney, Chicago.  The reception was an opportunity for the Maleng family, conference speakers and friends to honor Norm Maleng.

Washington Law Review Annual Spring Banquet, May 2008 : May 15, 2008 at the Hotel Andra in Seattle, the University of Washington School of Law's Washington Law Review Annual Spring Banquet.  The Washington Law Review is a student-run scholarly journal at the University of Washington School of Law. Published since 1925, the Washington Law Review publishes professional and student-written articles of national and regional interest four times a year. 

This year the WLR honored Professor Dwight Drake, class of 1973 as Distinguished Alumnus.  Outgoing editors were celebrated and incoming editors were congratulated.  A lovely evening.  For more about the law review:  http://www.law.washington.edu/WLR/

University of Washington School of Law, Law Women's Caucus Third Annual Alumnae Recognition Reception, April 2008 : This annual event honors distinguished women graduates of the University of Washington School of Law.  In April 2008 The Honorable Betty Binns Fletcher, United States Senior Circuit Judge, '56 received the Distinguished Alumna Award.  Brenda Williams JD, MPA, '97 was honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Women and the Law.

The Law Women’s Caucus is an organization dedicated to helping to resolve issues facing women in the legal profession. It seeks to provide support to female law students in a variety of ways such as mentorship programs, speaker presentations/discussions, and social events. The organization has the goal of reaching out to the greater community by working with other organizations on particular issues and participating in charitable events. Association of King County Historical Organizations Awards Night, April 22, 2008 : Since 1977 the Association of King County Historical Organizations (AKCHO) has been the leading proponent and forum for addressing heritage issues at the local and county levels.

The Annual Awards event for the Association of King County Historical Organizations was held on April 22 at the Seattle Museum of History & Industry.  The event was an opportunity to honor people and organizations who help to protect, honor and interpret history in King County.

A Reception Honoring Justice Bobbe J. Bridge (Ret.) : In Gratitude: A Reception Honoring Justice Bobbe J. Bridge (Ret.) For Her Remarkable Service to the Minority and Children's Advocacy Communities, 13 February, 2008.  Justice Bridge served as a Washington State Supreme Court justice from 1999 to 2007 and is now the first president of the Center for Children and Youth Justice.  Before serving on the State Supreme Court, Justice Bridge served 10 years as a King County Superior Court judge.  She began her career at the Garvey Schubert Law Firm where she was the first female law partner.  

Friends, family and community gathered together to celebrate Justice Bridge and her many contributions to law and justice, especially as they pertain to children, youth and families.   Speaking on Justice Bridge's behalf: Governor Gary Locke, Rep. Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney, Judge Richard Jones, Sharon Osborne, Jon Bridge, Raquel Granath and Bonnie Glenn.

The event was held at the FareStart Restaurant.  FareStart provides a community that transforms lives by empowering homeless and disadvantaged men, women, and families to achieve self-sufficiency through life skills, job training and employment in the food service industry.  http://www.farestart.org/restaurant/about/index.html

Northwest African American Museum: Opening Day, March 8, 2008 : The Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) celebrated its opening day on March 8, 2008 at its home in the historic Colman School at 2300 Massachusetts St in Seattle, Washington.  Through programs and exhibitions NAAM will focus on the history and traditions that people of African descent have established in the Pacific Northwest.
