The UW School of Law hosted a working conference, Legal Education at the Crossroads — Ideas to Accomplishments: Sharing New Ideas for an Integrated Curriculum, September 5-7, 2008. The conference was held on the UW campus at William H. Gates Hall, home to the law school.

The conference responded to suggestions from a Carnegie Foundation report, Educating Lawyers: Preparation for the Profession of Law and Stuckey et al’s Best Practices in Legal Education. And offered intriguing ideas and works in progress at a time many in legal education consider to be a critical turning point for law school curriculum.

Approximately 90 deans and faculty from a wide range of schools around the country presented at the conference. Presentations included Showcase Stations organized around six themes to demonstrate curriculum innovations and materials to help other schools build on these efforts. Showcase Stations were followed by Workshops organized around the same themes. Plenary sessions and small group discussions on the last day addressed how to make changes and how to do assessment of curricular changes.
