NW Folklife 2023
52nd Annual Northwest Folklife Festival Memorial Day Weekend 2023, Seattle WA. Northwest Folklife is an independent 501(c)(3) arts organization that celebrates the multigenerational arts, cultures, and traditions of a global Pacific Northwest. Since 1971, Northwest Folklife’s work has centered on preserving cultural arts, bridging connections to heritage and identity, and cultivating the ever-evolving traditions of the Pacific Northwest.
A special feature this year was a showcase of Indigenous artists at the Unkitawa Circle of Indigenous Peoples Tent near the Space Needle. Artists spanned genres, tribes and nations. The Unkitawa program also centered and honored veterans of all identities as a part of the Memorial Day commemoration. Unkitawa is centered in traditional practices to help heal and support communities through ceremony, art, and culture.
