LBAW 20th Anniversary Gala 2012
On January 27, 2012 the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington celebrated its 20th anniversary gala with Keynote Speaker Colorado Supreme Court Justice Monica Márquez. Speakers included recently appointed jurist Justice Steven Gonzalez, Sal Mungia and leadership from LBAW Fe Lopez, Jennifer David, Patty Lally and Emily Gonzalez. Awards included Chach Duarte White, Abogada Excepcional / Extraordinary Attorney Award; Jorge Barón, Modelo de Excelencia / Model of Excellence Award; United for Fair Representation Colaition (George Cheung and Cherry Cayabyab), President's Award and LBAW Foundation Scholarship Recipients Andres Moses - Gonzaga School of Law, Lenny Sanchez - University of Washington School of Law and Sandy Restrepo - Seattle University School of Law. LBAW also introduced the first ever Bracewell Giuliani Scholar Elizabeth Mendoza and the Alena Suazo Memorial Scholar Zaida Rivera.
The purpose of the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington is to represent the concerns and goals of Latino attorneys and Latino people of the State of Washington. LBAW encourages and promotes the active participation of all Latino attorneys and seeks the involvement of Latino community, political, governmental, educational, and business leaders.
Efforts are made to encourage and assist Latino students and to recognize the needs and voice the concerns of Latino people and their communities. LBAW recognizes the importance of promoting Latino judicial appointments, encouraging respect for the integrity of the judicial system, and advocating for fairness and equality.
Further, LBAW aims to become a unified and active participant within the legal community of the State of Washington and assist in providing solutions to the problems that confront the legal system and communities.
