MLK Day March And Rally 2011
"Many Voices United to Build the Beloved Community," was the theme for Seattle WA's annual Martin Luther King Day March & Rally, January 17, 2011, sponsored by the MLK Committee. After a series of social justicemorning workshops at Garfield High, hundreds gathered in the Garfield gymnasium for a rally featuring dynamic speakers such as King County Councilman Larry Gossett, former state Senator Claudia Kauffman, and the Reverend Dr. Robert Jeffrey Sr. The late Roberto Maestes was honored with an award which was presented to his family. Entertainment was provided by the Leschi Elemntary School Choir, the El Centro Childrens Choir and the PNW Drumline.
In Reverend King's envisioned "Beloved Community," poverty, hunger and homelessness will not be tolerated because international standards of human decency will not allow it. Love and trust will triumph over fear and hatred. Peace with justice will prevail over war and military conflict.
May it be so.
