The John T. Williams Totem Pole Raising Ceremony
Human beings from all corners of the globe, of every color and faith came together so that the John T. Williams Totem could take its place in Seattle's history and it's future. carvers and volunteers from around the world, led by Rick Williams, worked for over a year to create this public art piece representing honor and healing after the tragic death of our late relative John T. Williams. On Feb. 26 hundreds joined to carry the pole the 1.5 miles from the waterfront at Pier 57 to the Seattle Center and then stand it for all to share. The celebration included Tribal representatives, traditional drums, singing, dancing, prayer, human rights groups, state and city officials. The JTW Totem Pole Project continues its effort to complete the project by building a plaza for public gathering and carving at the site of the pole.
