Tribal Canoe Journey 2008: Paddle to Cowichan
2008 PADDLE TO COWICHAN
July 28, 2008 109 canoes arrived at Cowichan Tribes Territory, British Columbia, Canada. (Cowichan is near Duncan, on Vancouver Island, B.C.). Canoe Protocol continued to August 1.
Cowichan welcomed Canoe Families for this year's events. The Cowichan Tribes hosted the end of Tribal Journey 2008, PADDLE TO COWICHAN Native Canoe Journey events July 28th through August 1, followed by the North American Indigenous Games events continuing from Aug. 3 to Aug. 10.
Traditional ocean-going canoes, from many canoe cultures and nations made the journey to Cowichan, traveling from as far north as the Queen Charlotte Islands, and as far south as Oregon State, with the largest number of canoes originating from Native Nations and Tribes of Washington State, USA, and British Columbia, Canada.
